The strangers you meet

Your parents probably told you not to talk to strangers when you were younger, before the internet.
Now parents probably tell their kids not to add anyone as a friend that they don't know in real life, or email them.
I have now broken all of these rules.  But how else do you make friends?

For almost a year I have been chatting with a fellow blogger for about a year that lives in mexico. While I was in mexico we met for coffee. It was really nice to meet her in person. We talked for an hour or so, I look forward to spending more time with her after the final move.

I had also been told about a group in the area that was all expats, and a couple people had said they would get me in contact with them. However, they found me!

Josh and I were sitting at dinner, and this group walked in, josh and I were talking about how we didn't think they looked Mexican. They apparently didn't think we did either, one of the ladies came over to our table and asked if we spoke English and invited us to join them for dinner, so we did. After dinner we joined them at a local pub. We had a great night!

Sometimes your parents are right, you shouldn't talk to strangers, but sometimes, you should.
I look forward to new friends that were once strangers :)

Driving in mexico

At first I was scared, I had never driven in a different country (canada doesn't count).

I rode around with josh for a week. We planned for my practice drive for the weekend in The morning, because the traffic wouldn't be that bad. I hate city driving.

I drove to the mall in preperation for my solo trip later in the week. Twice. Also we figured out how to get the nav system to speak  in English! So that was awesome!

I like that at a stop light only one direction has a green light. No oncoming traffic.
I dislike that they turn left from any lane and are really aggressive drivers.

I made it to the mall and the grocery store all on my own! I can drive in a foreign country!

Furniture Shopping

Serious furniture shopping is something Josh and I have only had to do once.  We bought a nice dining room set.
We bought this while we still lived in Michigan. We went to Art Van and saw this set on clerance and loved it, so we put in an order and a few days later it was to be delivered.

A few days after it had been delivered we started to put it together. We had all of the chairs assembled and the Table, but not the hutch. Thankfully because we found out that week we would be moving to North Carolina. We packed it up and moved it to North Carolina with us. It is again packed up, and put in storage for the duration of our journey to mexico.  However, it took us a whole day to buy this dining room set.

Now we have to buy a whole house full of furniture, A WHOLE HOUSE! we've only ever bought 1 room! I'm over whelmed...

We have went to several furniture stores here in Mexico, and one store that we really liked was super expensive, we will probably not buy a lot from there, and everything was imported from the US... hahahaha....

but I did find this chair at a different store... I think its going to be mine...hhahahahhaha...

Beer

I do not drink beer, but walking through the beer aisle with Josh I picked this out.
I drank this one. It was good!

Raw

If you know me, I like everything very well done...
But then Josh and I went to a Japanese restraunt the other day...
And we ordered this
Sushi.
For the first time in my life I ate sushi, it had caviar on top and raw crab.
Then we ordered skewers, one tuna and one chicken... The tuna ones were only seared, but really good, and of course the chicken was well done.

I was probably will not eat a ton of sushi in the future but it's not out of the question.

Mexican car wash

Today is the first full day in Mexico for this trip. Although we saw many things, the thing that stands out the most is the Mexican car wash.

And not for any particular reason other than the expanse of time it takes to get your car washed.

We had been out running a few errands and Josh decided we should get the car washed before we headed out to lunch. So we stopped in the car wash at about 12:30, no big deal you think.
We pull up to the booth, and Josh gets the "Ultra" car wash that the picture shows a ton of things happening to your car, and a list of items we can not read... Learning Spanish is on the list of things to do this week... Rosetta Stone here we come...
After paying, we pull up to the automatic car wash where waiting in line two men start hand washing our car and push in our mirrors. Then we pull forward onto the track that pushes your car along. We go through a rather nice automatic car wash. After the automatic car wash we had to drive over to one of 10 lanes where teams of two men dried the outside, vaccumed and shined the inside of the car... But we had to wait in line... but you do not wait inline in your car, you get out of your car, take everything with you and put your keys on the windshield and go wait in a waiting area.

The waiting area has newspapers, magazines, a kids play ground and vending machines. 50 minutes later, the line supervisor looks over our car, has them touch a few more things up and we get our keys back... 50 MINUTES...

Plan accordingly.

Feeling Thankful

Today I am feeling thankful.

Last night as I was going to bed, I saw a couple posts on facebook, and saw that some of my sorority sisters were praying for another sister. Nothing was said why, but the sister they were praying for was pregnant, I worried. This morning I woke to the news that she had a baby boy, and he was born with a heart defect, and had been life flighted to a children's hospital. I prayed.

Then this afternoon I visited a former co-worker. This co-worker retired from the library because she was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in April 2013, at the time it was only affecting her leg, now she is mostly wheelchair bound, and is losing function in her hands. I enjoyed spending time with her this afternoon.

I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for their health and mine.
