Josh worked all day, so I hung out at home with my MIL and Dave.
We baked cookies
This was my test batch for Josh's bosses visit, he likes cookies, so I make some for him these ones were tough, so I switched back to my Recipe with crisco in it. And they were much better.
I also finished these two blocks,
Now I just need to embroider on the white one to make it a snow man

Day 90
Josh had the whole day off,
so we headed to a town near by where there is a winery, that we really enjoy their wine.
The tour was all in spanish, and we understood most of it enough to get the gist, and translate for Josh's mom and Dave.

They use these to make wine the old fashioned way
lots of wine sitting in barrels
these wine barrels are over 200 years old, they stopped using these recently can you believe making wine in the same barrels for over 200 years??
Then we explored the town, where they actually still have aqueducts!
that they still use!!!!
and this church on a mountain, we didn't go to it this time, because you have to walk up there, but on our next visit we will for sure!
Day 89
Josh worked in the morning, and then took the rest of the day off,
So we headed down town,
We took Josh's mom to the sarape museum
So we headed down town,
We took Josh's mom to the sarape museum
This is a Sarape, also known as a poncho, but they make other stuff now with the same patterns |
We took them to the overlook so they could see Saltillo
and our course we took them to the cathedral
This Jesus is a little creepy to me
and they sure don't give you a ton of holy water
then we stopped by the artisan shop, where they make sarapes, its really neat to watch
they also dye and spin their own wool
We bought this blanket and a table runner, this is a heavy queen sized wool blanket
Day 88
Josh went to work.
So I had the whole day with my MIL and Dave.
So I decided we could do a little shopping, since its different in some instances than in the US.
Josh's mom was most amazed by the prices and that there was a walmart in the mall...
I bought some books to practice my spanish... they are for ages 2-4...

A traditional adobe mud brick house (a little in disrepair) |
And we celebrated Josh's mom's birthday with the cake I baked on day 85
Day 86
Today is the day we pick up my MIL from the airport.
So after a few chores we decided to try out what we deduced was the "scenic route" to the airport!
It was scenic for sure, but I'm not sure its the route everyone was talking about. At first it was just scenic, then the road was getting repaved, then it was just gravel, and then we ran into some construction where they had rerouted an entire river to build some bridges. Then there were places where they actually had the river over the road and then we kept going (there was no turning around now) and we came to a place where they must have had massive flooding and the the other lane of the road completely was washed away into the rocky river bed! It was the scary/craziest thing.
4 hours later we arrived at the airport, only 1 hour late :D
What an adventure!
here are a few beautiful pictures we took!

Day 85
The prep for my mother in-law continues.
But! Of course I had to visit my friends for coffee! So we sat outside and it was beautiful! But I did burn my part... Again.
3 hours later, I had to stop by the grocery store to pick up a few items to make my first German Chocolate cake.
I needed sweetened baking chocolate and evaporated milk.
So while in the baking aisle I found baking chocolate, but it didn't specify sweetened or unsweetened... So I called my mom to find out how I would tell, she didn't know, so I bought one of each :) then when I got home I called my sister, she helped, for future reference, unsweetened baking chocolate does not have sugar as an ingredient at all, all of the chocolate I bought had sugar. So then I had to choose which one to use, dark, semi dark, or milk chocolate. So my sister and I decided semi dark would be best, since it was kind of the middle ground.
Then my search for evaporated milk didn't end well... They don't have it, so I had to make it myself...
One hour later, the milk had evaporated enough to be evaporated milk... This cake took a lot of patience... I also had to make my egg whites into stiff white peaks...
The cake turned out good.
And so did the topping
And on my way to pick Josh up I saw this...
See the kid bouncing around in the car? Yes, seat belts kids, use the,

Day 84
The day started early with cooking dinner.
I touched beef today
Cut the fat off the brisket, it wasn't that bad, the fat was more gross than the meat.
Then I fried/seared the outside
Then popped it in the crock pot with a million other things
And waited 8 hours...
While I waited, I folded and ironed laundry, did some dishes, did some espanol homework, and I'm sure did a million other things...
Then after all of that waiting,
French dip sandwiches
They were ok... I probably won't make them again...
Then we went to spanish class where we reviewed chapters 1-5... It was miserable and I did horrible... Ugh

Day 83
I spent most of the day on the couch with a migrain.
Thankfully before spanish it subsided.
After spanish we went to the grocery store. We picked up a few snacks...

Day 80 and 81
Rain, cold rain since Saturday evening,
So we mostly hung out at home,
And since day 81 was a holiday, constitution day, Josh had a day off work! Of course he went in, but he was only there for 2 hours!
The. We finished watching the 3rd season of scandal, it was a good show,
But, the thing is, I think since we binge watch a whole show until we runout of seasons, it kills us, and the show. We kind of get tired of it after a while, but we are committed, so we finish it.
Then we decided to be american and head out to get pizza for dinner
Day 79
In prep for Josh's mom visiting we decided to visit a couple more places, to make sure they were worth our time,
We headed up into the mountains the drive was beautiful even though it was a cloudy day
Then we stopped by a ski resort
This is their wine cellar
A cozy fire in The dining room
And a rustic atmosphere
This is the ski hill... Yes that is something like AstroTurf that they are skiing down!
The sledding hill is more popular, we thought it was funny they had a conveyer belt In The middle for the kids to ride back to the top on.
These cacti are everywhere
On the drive we saw tons of fields of trees, fruit trees like for apples that they cover with nets to protect, instead of pesticides and etc.
And this sweet car
And a beautiful sunset at we headed out to dinner with friends
