72!

too bad its not 72 degrees... instead its 72 squares I finally cut out for the main square of the quilt.
a whopping 4 and 3/4 cut, so it will be 4 and 1/4 finished.

in other news...
the other day in the dollar store parking lot I found .01
and today the guy in front of me left his change in the self check out, I even tried to catch him cause it was $2!
so that brings my total to $2.22
not bad for the second month :D

By The Numbers

So I sat down and did a little math last night,
I had originally thought that I wanted to make 12 inch squares, but it turns out getting an even measurement to cut out with a reasonable size square is impossible, so 6 inch squares it is...
which means... 1.5 inch squares for the small squares (finished)
and 4 1/4 inch big squares...

those small squares yeah... I have to make ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY!!!!!

and small individual triangles I have to make  SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO

Let the cutting begin!

February

Well last month I said was mending month
and I got almost everything mended... but then my fabulous husband thought ... oh I want all of my pants hemmed, so the basket is full again, but I have other plans... at least for this month.

This month I am working on my 3rd queen sized quilt.
this quilt also needs to stay super secret, cause the person I'm making it for knows she is getting it for her wedding but doesnt know what it will look like.

and here are the fabrics...

the blue will be the big squares and the browns will be some of the triangles and white the other side.
what do you think?

Money Just Lying around

Have you ever wondered the type of people that drop money and don't bother looking for it?
or don't pick it up? I don'd understand it.
Sure you can no longer buy anything with a penny, but with enough pennies you can buy anything.

on Saturday, I picked up two dimes
and yesterday I found a penny.

total for the year- $0.21
how much can I get this year?

Mending Month

So I decided that January is mending month.
So I can not feel bad about the pile sitting there while I make new quilts instead...

Also the quilting bug bit my mom :D she is planning her first quilt.
and I have to add another quilt in to new years resolution! so 5 quilts and a 5K.

I also started volunteering at the local library and am looking for a job, and I plan on registering to substitute teach.

let the mending begin.

End of last year

Well sometime in December I posted my last post of last year. BUTTTTTT....a lot of stuff happened...

I got the yellow quilt back from Teresa looking great all quilted and I put on my first print border

Then I was in a wedding at the end of December and the bride made all of these for the bridesmaids

and while I was at the church which happened to be my Grandma's church I saw this quilt

which my Grandma helped make, at the roots are the names of the founders of the church, and the leaves represent each member

overall this has been a great quilting year, i learned a lot, and I know I will do great next year :D

Wrapping up the Year

So this year I had big plans... 6 quilts!
however... God of course had other plans... Moving... Twice
Traveling to 4 continents, ,which was amazing and working my tail off... then retiring.
Funny how things work out.

So needless to say with everything all squeezed in I managed to finish only two quilts...

and I didn't meet my new years resolution either. which was running a 5K, see above for my excuses :D
so next year... make 4 quilts and run a 5K, I will go on record again saying it is my new years resolution, if my husband can run a marathon I can surely run 3 miles... right?

well the last quilt is off to be quilted :D

And now I have a new distraction...

I know, I feel this is cheating too... but I didn't know how else I was going to cut thousands of perfect little hexagons... how those women did it in the 30s is beyond me... but I don't plan to do it by hand... cause then I would probably mess it up...

Here are my first two hexagons. I'm sure this project will take FOREVER, because it is going to be a queen sized Grandmothers flower garden, and I am going to hand sew and hand quilt it all. Now I know you think I'm crazy, I think so too :D but I WILL NOT GIVE THIS ONE AWAY... end of story.
so over the next 30 or so years check back for updates :D
