Day 485

Things in the house are coming together,
Our closet is organized
I love this bathroom, minus the clear glass door on the door to the toilet.
Our bedroom is smaller than the last, but it's great! I think it's a much better size, especially since there are no dressers!
Then I worked on scrubbing some cupboards, and Mr decided to help
The guest room also got put together,
And check out the guest closet!

Day 484

The unpacking continues, my kitchen is a disaster...
And Mr has found a refuge among the clutter
I think the guys are done working on the wall, today they are having their siesta in the closet. They look a little dead.

Day 483

Today we are still moving in, and they are working on our back wall
Mr is trying out hiding places in the new house.
This is the truck that moved our furniture...and all the workers rode on the inside. Good thing is we didn't move far.
Mr was testing his fear of heights, I guess he doesn't have one.
Then they discovered that the mattresses would not fit up the stairs.so the had to lift them over the balcony!
Thankfully they all made it safely
And all of our extra furniture doesn't fit in this house we finally have a plan to donate it!!!! More than a year later!
Our old house looks so empty and it echoes.
While we were doing our final clean up it rained a ton, and flooded the streets!

Day 482

More unpacking, and my sewing room is taking shape.
Our refrigerator was delivered, on its side
Then Josh helped them get some of the packaging off...
And after we took all the ridiculous amounts of parking out of the inside its up and running! And I love it!

Day 481

We did a lot of packing!
This is my sewing room, 1/2 packed.

And we got the keys to the new house,
where Josh left me at to get some cleaning done, while he went and grabbed a load of already packed things, we have a long road ahead! Lots of cleaning, we started with mopping the living room floor so that we could just move everything into the living room and then disperse as we went.

Days 479 & 480

We are hoping to get the keys to our house soon, so I measured all of the furniture and drew to scale little squares of them, because we do not think it will all fit in our new house.
We hope to get the keys on the first...

Then I took a quick trip with my friends to a traveling artisan market.
These are the things I picked up.
A candle cover

A new shirt, they were one size fits all, so it's a little big but maybe with jogging a or as a beach cover...

And some more art!

Then Mr was being adorable while I waited for Jodh to come home.
He is enjoying the new tower.

And when Josh got home he told me, we get the keys tomorrow... And we need to move all of our stuff over the weekend, the movers come Monday at 9am!
I need to clean the new house and pack everything we own, and then clean the old house all in 4 days.
Better get to work!

Days 450 & 451

After another day of chores, and then Josh and I looked at a couple new houses.
Some neighborhoods have nice parks and gardens
On my way home I saw this,
Things here in Mexico get transported a lot differently

We also made a quick easy BBQ breaded chicken. Yum!

Days 408 & 409

So I looked out the upstairs window and this happened.
They have been working on the other side of our wall building a neighborhood, we just didn't expect them to build a house essentially in our back yard!
Now we have to move.
The cement truck came
But Mr slept through all of their noise
And in the evening I made cauliflower pizza crust
Looks good right?
Wrong, it was terrible, never again! Never again!

Packed

We taped out the size of the box we were allowed to fill with our belongings we would need for the next 5 years...
One of my boxes, had 27 sweaters... But then I thought that I couldn't fit everything, so I had to whittle it down, not all 27 sweaters made it...

We had to make an inventory of everything to go through customs... But we didn't do it perfect... Now we have to drive to Texas, and get some paperwork signed... And then Hopefully we can have our box...

Josh packed my singer as his carry on... It made it safe and sound!

This everything we hope is still ok when we get back in 5 years...

Furniture Shopping

Serious furniture shopping is something Josh and I have only had to do once.  We bought a nice dining room set.
We bought this while we still lived in Michigan. We went to Art Van and saw this set on clerance and loved it, so we put in an order and a few days later it was to be delivered.

A few days after it had been delivered we started to put it together. We had all of the chairs assembled and the Table, but not the hutch. Thankfully because we found out that week we would be moving to North Carolina. We packed it up and moved it to North Carolina with us. It is again packed up, and put in storage for the duration of our journey to mexico.  However, it took us a whole day to buy this dining room set.

Now we have to buy a whole house full of furniture, A WHOLE HOUSE! we've only ever bought 1 room! I'm over whelmed...

We have went to several furniture stores here in Mexico, and one store that we really liked was super expensive, we will probably not buy a lot from there, and everything was imported from the US... hahahaha....

but I did find this chair at a different store... I think its going to be mine...hhahahahhaha...

Your marriage license is not real

You know that fancy marriage license they give you the day you tie the knot with the pretty gold seal... It's fake...
Ok not really... But apparently not real enough...
Real enough to change your name at the social security office, the Secretary of State (DMV), your tax filing, etc. but not really real.
In order to get a "Real" marriage license a week to 10 days after your marriage you need to order one from the county clerk.

The difference?
There will be an added statement somewhere on it (because marriage licenses vary from county to county, and state by state) that says it is indeed a true marriage license and has been signed by the county deputy or something, not the county clerk like before.

What can this marriage license do for you that your other one can't?
Nothing. (That I know of)

Why get one?
Well, send it in/take it in/ have a friend take it in to the special Secretary of State with $1, and the county you want to get a visa to, and they will add a special certification to is called Apostille. This new certification will then allow your marriage to be recognized by the other county, because apparently now it's real... It wasn't before...

Temporary Home 2.0

Before we move to Mexico, we need a place to live until our Visas come through,
Last time in Michigan we had a temporary home too. it was a one bedroom apartment where the people that lived above me fought like cats and dogs, and threatened to throw their baby out of the window... seriously

This time,
i'm living in a place that is a little better, I can barley hear the people above me, and we have a pool :D
But I'm not unpacking.

Keeping it classy with my bed in the dinning room, under the chandelier

The big goodbye

A year ago we finally hung pictures up in our living room.
3 months ago we packed everything up, and took those pictures down,
2 weeks a go we sold our house.

We knew we wouldn't live in this house forever, it was never our dream, but we didn't think it would be less than 3 years.

I am glad that it did not take 9 months to sell like our last house.

Where have you been?

A fair question,
I've been here all along, not reading posts or logging any of my own,
As it seems I do when top secret life changing events come around.
This time, yes another move,
So I've abandoned my "to do list" and just about everything else I had planned in life, and packed it up.
And now the waiting begins, for our house to sell
For our visa paper work to come in, and for life to settle into something resembling a normal family again

House wife monologue days 1 and 2

Well since my last blog, I moved to North Carolina,
and retired from work, and now am a stay at home wife.
which at day 2 could be a little better.
Yesterday I woke up and packed josh breakfast, did like 5 loads of laundry and then I also signed up for the Y. and unpacked a couple of boxes. Then I made dinner, spaghetti. Josh hauled a couple heavy boxes up stairs and then set up the wireless router...
Today I got up ate breakfast with Josh, packed his lunch and got a birthday card from my mother inlaw... thank you :D
I also washed some bedspreads and balanced the check book and finally went grocery shopping, I thought I would check out food lion since it is pretty much right across the street, they had some of the stuff I needed, but also seemed a little high priced... so I am going to gather pricing data (because I have time to do comparisons now) and figure out which store is the best. But since Food lion didnt have everything I need I headed to the Walmart in Belmont...
well I got lost on the way there :( I had to stop and ask for directions ( I know you are thinking, but Lisa you own a GPS, why yes I do but the walmart and my house are both so new they are not in my GPS... time to update maps) so I stop and ask for directions, and the lady was real nice but she goes "Honey, you aren't from around here are you?" what gave it away? the lack of an accent or the michigan license plate?

Well walmart had some more of the stuff I needed, but not all... so after going to two grocery stores... and getting lost I decided to head home and call it a day... I called josh at work to pick up the one thing I needed for dinner tonight, Manacotti noodles... at yet a second walmart... lets hope they have them. Yes each walmart has different stuff because of the demographic in the area. sigh...

tomorrow I guess I'll try out bilo and another walmart

Its been a while

First let me apologize for our absence on here.
A lot things have been going on,
but I'll explain later.
Today, I just need to get my thoughts out there.

This weekend, I took a trip.
I've been meaning to take this trip since I moved to Kzoo.
When we moved here, I moved close to the place my grandparents used to live.
And Since I became aware that their old house was less than an hour away, I've dreamed of what it would be like to have them so close.
Although, I'm not really sure what it would be like, since they have both passed away more than 10 years ago, but I cant get it out of my head
So this weekend I drove past their old house, and i wasnt what I remembered.
Not that I remember much. but the grass was over grown, when it was always cut, there was no picnic table to gather around and play cards at night or eat grilled corn in the summer, no squirrel feeder to laugh at the antics of the squirrels, I dont recall seeing a deck for the pontoon to park at and take us out on the lake, or the paddle boat to paddle across the canal and watch the turtles, no ducks wandered onto the grass expecting to be fed, no campfire pit could be seen to gather around and laugh. The house was empty, abandoned, something it never looked like until the closest memories I have. When we cleaned out the house on the weekends, and stayed in the house much too quiet with out grandma snoring on the couch watching TV. Sadly most of the memories I have at that house are not happy memories, but I want them to be. Although the good ones never stand out first.
I remember going there in the summer and riding around with my grandpa on the three wheeler, and later when I was old enough to take it for a spin on my own, I remember watching TV with my cousins or going out on the lake to "fish", but those are all a blur, the most vivid memory I have, that I cant get out of my head is the night my cousin was bit by a dog. I remember that night all too often. I sadly also dont remember much about my grandparents that lived there. I try. I try to remember them there in the house and the good times, but what most of my memories end up being are the ones from the nursing home, and sadly for my Grandma, mostly of her snoring on the couch, since her time in the nursing home was limited. But I try to remember my grandpa before the nursing home, but I cant pull up many memories, but I remember the memories of him not remembering us, of him wearing a bib of how hard it was on my dad to see him like that. How hard it was for all of us and yet, thats all I can remember.
I want to remember more.
I shouldnt have went and tried only to remember the good times. And imagine what it would have been like.

Revamping

1-5-2009
Well we got tired of updating the other blog becuase it didnt work right.
so we have imported all of the old blogs into here and will use this from now on :)

1-2-2009

For our vacation we have been visiting the apartment everyday to do some laundry because we dont have a dryer at the house yet, and also to finish getting the things out of the apartment.
for the most part we have been succ
essful, we still have a few things on the porch, in the garage and kitchen and of course the laundry, but everything else is cleared out.
FINALLY!

Also we have been working on getting things organized in the house, for the most part the kitchen is done, however, the rest of the house is a work in progress.

Josh fixed the leaky seal in the kitchen sink
today and Mister supervised.
so no more buckets under the kitchen sink :)
YEY!

12-22-2008

Since we moved in we have been trying to get the internet, however no luck so far, it was supposed to be ready on Friday, the guy came and activated our phone line, but work in the office still needs to be done. We have to wait until friday now.

We did also get our dish network on friday, I think I like comcast better.

Almost everyday since we moved into the house Lisa has been making trips back to the apartment on her way home from work.
She does a load of laundry and packs up some items to bring home. Josh has stopped by a few times and packed up the desk, and this weekend a few other boxes, it looks like we have gotten everything out of the master bath... making progress I guess. however, kind of sad that we are only fully moved out of the master bath.

At the house we are still living out of boxes for the most part, with Christmas coming up quickly we are concentrating on getting our Christmas cards out and presents wrapped, we wont even have time to put our tree up, which is ok, now that we are not hosting christmas this year.

the other day we were unpacking our car and Lisa thought she saw something out of the corner of her eye, and thought nothing of it, just the cat must have ran by or something.

So after we unpacked the car Lisa started to put stuff away, and Mister was acting all weird, hiding under everything, as lisa picked up a laundry basket a BAT comes flying at her! She runs out into the Garage and Yells "AAAAAHHHH BAT!" Josh comes in to the rescue, and gets a broom and starts creeping around the house. He gets into the diningroom and the bat tries to dive bomb him, Josh misses with his broom. The bat, flies up the stairs. Finally we hunt him down in one of the bedrooms, but we arent sure its behind the curtain, a sheer curtain, so Josh throws a dust pan at it and misses, the bat didnt move, so he creeps up slowly and BANG! hits it with the broom, it drops to the floor, we stuff it in a plastic bag and head to walmart to throw it out,
we dont have garbage service yet.

We have also had a massive amount of snow so josh has spent several hours getting to know the driveway and the neighbors, Mike lives to the east of us and Nancy lives across the street :)

Good to know your neighbors.

12-16-2008

This weekend we moved in to our house technically.
Thank you to Adam, Justin, Lisa's Mom and Dad and Lisa and Jeremy!

Friday night Adam and Justin came up to our apartment, so they were ready to go bright and early Saturday morning. (10am)
They helped move all of the big stuff into the house, so now all we need to move is our dishes, and small items from the apartment, our goal is to have all of that accomplished by the end of december.

Lisa's mom and Dad spent the night to help us move another load of items in the morning. Mostly clothes adn other small things around the house, then they headed home.

We havent fully unpacked everything yet, or found a place to keep everything!
We are still trying to find a good place to put Mister's Litterbox.

So the work continues :)

Many people have been wondering,
Our Apartment Address in Kzoo is still valid until Jan of next year.
so feel free to mail items there,
if you still want our new address at the house e-mail us, we will be sending it out in our X-mas letter as well.

Also Lisa and Jeremy, Thank you for the Welcome mat! ;)
We really appreciate it!
and Stacey and Chris thank you for the Platter! Its the only Christmas decoration we have out!

12-10-2008

We were going to clean on Friday, but the roads were too bad to go over to the house and worry about coming back tired on friday night.

So we headed out early Saturday morning, we were able to finish the family room, and most of the kitchen, all the appliances and everything
and we uncovered some beautiful avocado green with yellow linoleum when we moved the dish washer...

On Sunday we scrubbed the kitchen floors, and finished the Living room and Dining room and the bedroom downstairs

monday we took off and went and visited lisa's mom real quick to pick up things like dishes for x-mas dinner and etc. and then we went to Ikea! and did a little shopping,

Tuesday we were back at it, josh scrubbed all the carpet and lisa cleaned the laundry room and bathroom.

Finally we are done cleaning the house! we move in this saturday.

12-3-2008

Well with 23 days and counting until we are hosting Christmas dinner for Josh's Mom's family, we have a lot of work to do.
So no more slacking off.

Last night we didn't get much accomplished, but every little bit helps. We finished washing the walls and windows and ceiling in the kitchen.

Tonight we hope to tackle all of the appliances... you need somewhere to cook Christmas dinner!

11-30-2008

11-30-20
Bringing our November to a close. Lisa's parents came over to visit and help clean.
After a filling thanksgiving dinner and a good sleep, we took friday off to go Christmas shopping, but Saturday we were back at it bright and early.
After help from Lisa's Mom and Dad we finished cleaning the entire upstairs, the carpet has been scrubbed and everything, all the way down the stairs.
the second bathroom will need some regrouting and caulking, but we can do that after finish cleaning.
Josh and Lisa's dad put in the new locks. And Lisa's parents dropped off the christmas decorations we have been storing at their house :) so we will be able to decorate after we finish cleaning.

Lisa and her mom also took a quick break and headed to Goodwill for a little shopping and check out the chair they picked up :)

tomorrow back to cleaning, the entryway is next on our list.

11-25-2008

We looked into the grey grout, and we thought about how we are going to clean up after it, so we are going to wait until spring so we can clean up outside instead of washing the extra grout down the sink and clogging up the pipes...

and apparently they dont make cork seals anymore, so we have to make our own... we got our cork at Joann fabrics... really cheap actually and we will have some left over incase we need to replace it again... which hopefully we wont.

and finally we got to our cleaning.
we finished up the masterbed room,
we will have to clean the outside of our window and the screen in the spring as well...
but the walls, ceiling and vents are washed, and the inside of the window clean and the curtains.
And we will have to scrub the carpet and the curtains (cause they arent the kind you can put in the washer) :)

so a little progress today...

11-24-2008

we finally took some pictures
Well on friday we thought we would stop by Lowes on the way and pick up a few things like light bulbs and etc. and well... we spend like two hours there and didnt get to cleaning and on saturday we went to Josh's brother's house for thanksgiving, so cleaning was left for sunday

We finished the master bedroom except we need to regrout the shower floor, recaulk around the sink and shower and the light in the shower needs a new cork seal.
while we were cleaning our bathroom we thought the shower head was a little gross... so we replaced it...

check out our new shower head

An
d grout... quite possible the horriblist thing to clean ever...
Then we cleaned the master closet
the people that painted and organized that thing were clearly home improvement retarted.
they didnt move the shelving to paint
they didnt paint above the top shelf...
and the shelving units were uh... interesting
but to top it off... the list of items left behind
2 pairs of socks
2 teeth (the toothfairy visited)
1 pair of underware

then we start to clean the master bedroom, but we only got it vacuumed and the light and fan cleaned...
so hopefully tonight or tomorrow we can get some more cleaned...

11-21-2008

So we finally closed on our house on the 19th!
Our first night we invited Lisa and Jeremy over to check it out since we will be living really close to them now! it will be great!
so they stopped by and brought some pizza and beer :) Thanks!

Then yesterday we decided we were going to start the cleaning process.
We packed up all of our cleaning supplies from the apartment and headed to the house, stopping at walmart to pick up a few missing items.
We got to the house around 8pm, unpacked and decided to start in the master bath.
After an hour of cleaning we didn't get too far, but we are making progress.

We were able to clean the sink and vanity, however we could not figure out how to get the drain out, so we couldn't clean it, any ideas?
We also got the medicine cabinet clean, expect we forgot paper towels, so tonight we will clean the mirror. We also got the light fixture clean and started to clean the vent fan when we realized we needed tools to complete the job, so we've started packing list for tonight to continue our cleaning :)

hopefully we can post pics soon!
