Back to Mexico

I woke up to this
With more on the way
It snowed pretty hard while I was at the airport, but we ended up with no delays,
And they decide the plane, I've never seen it be green before. I'm sure it is good for the environment...

I made it home safe and sound.

Days 417& 418

I bought these apples today.
The picture doesn't do it justice, it's so red, it reminds me of the ones in Snow White.

Speaking of snow, it is still on the mountains, even though it's warming up down here in the valley.
I finished the quilt top with the borders and I sewed some batting together so it's ready now I need to baste.

Day 415

Freezing here, I think because it was warm, like low 80s warm and now it's below freezing, it's worse. It feels miserable.
But we have snow on the mountains!

Day 186

We spent some time tiding up the yard, went grocery shopping, hit up the gym and hung out at home the rest of the day.

We made a delicious recipe of honey lemon glazed chicken over rice.
We chose to use our deep fryer, and our chicken didn't turn out as dark as the picture, and I'm. It sure the sauce thickened quite as much, BUT the buttermilk, which I made myself because we could t get it here, made a huge difference I. The taste of the breeding on the chicken, and it was delicious!!!! This will definitely go into the will make again file! Yum!

After dinner we watched a bit of TV and then I was headed to bed I was tired, josh stayed up a bit. I laid down a little while later I heard a clicking noise and I asked Josh if he had heard it, or knew what it was, he did not. I laid back down, and then the whole house shook!!! The bed rattled and the chandalier over the bed shook, probably not that long, but it felt like 15-20 seconds, and I ran downstairs and I told Josh it was an earth quake, he claims no, that it was probably just a big truck rumbling by, I said no way! A big truck would never shake the house that much! It was an earthquake! After a while we went to bed disagreeing, then as we laid down, two aftershocks! He was more willing to agree that It might have been an earth quake by then, and we went to sleep.

Turns out it was an earth quake!

Last Tuesday this happened
Although we did not get much hail at our house, I thought this was crazy! The hail here is more than I've ever seen before
then last Thursday there was another crazy storm while we were in Spanish class that took out the power and flooded the streets, and tore down some trees, and now an earthquake! Things are getting crazy!

Day 176

It hailed again! The third time in 5 weeks!
This time only marble sized.
But lots of it! Then it was really windy! So windy the power went out almost everywhere and the street lights too of course! So the driving was crazy!
(As if it isn't usually!) no one knows what a 4-way stop is apparently!

I also redeemed myself today and sewed all of these the right way! Yey!

So last week I found ants in my dishwasher, this week they were on my counter! But not doing what ants normally do, they were not hauling food around, they were just scurrying here and there, with no agenda or organization it seems, so thankfully Josh sprayed outside and inside by the dishwasher and I've only seen 2 ants since! Because the houses are so unsealed here ants come in no problem!

Day 166

From the storm yesterday it was very windy most of the day,
We had originally planned to go hiking, but, Josh was afraid we would get blown off the mountain.
So instead we did some stuff around the house. We cleaned the pool, and fixed one of the sprinklers,
And since it was 100 degrees,
Here is proof!
We went swimming in the pool, we even turned the heater on, and I touched the pool floor for the first time, it was really nice!
Then we made chicken taquitos for dinner, fast and easy, we would make these again (I made burrito size though :) )

Day 152

So we finally did it!
We bought lime trees!
I hope they survive! The wind really wiped them up after we potted them!
They already have tiny baby limes on them! I'm pretty excited!
Mr. even laid in the grass while we were outside, I was impressed.
We also bought a violet for my pot out front.
There was a rainbow right over our house!!!!

I also made my first iced tea, from Teavana tea, it was really good!!!!
And we made beef tacos, the recipe was eh... I mean they tasted like tacos... Nothing special, but good, cause we like tacos!

Are you tired of pictures of this little guy yet?

Day 140

Yes, I skipped a number, but technically yesterday was day 139

Not much exciting, catching up on laundry, from 3 weeks! Dishes and unpacking.
Mr. enjoyed the sun.
And I surveyed the damage from the storm
Holes in almost all of the screens upstairs,
Dents in the car hood
A broken roof tile
Tons of the decorative stone chipped off

I also unpacked my fabric stash I brought back😍
I brought back fabric for my two BOM blocks that I'm behind, and one WIP

Mr. Also got to explore part of the yard
He was not impressed by the pool.

Country #2 on the road trip

Today is the day Mr. Becomes a Mexican cat.
Señor meow, as he is now to be called.

We moved all of our things into the Mexican car and headed out.
Mr. Was quite anxious because in this car we had not built him a cubby.
We crossed the rio grand
It was smaller than I expected.
Then we pulled over in the declare lane for customs, we told the, we wanted to declare our cat, they searched our car and we were on our way.

Mr. Decided that riding on top of everything would suit him just fine, so this is where he spent the drive.

We were about half way home when the expressway backed up and we were stopped for a while. When we got going we saw they had been moving a paver onto the other side of the road for construction, then a little ways down the road we were directed to cross the median and drive on the other side of the expressway.
When we saw this
This truck crossed the median and rolled over! I hope he was ok!

Finally we made it home, and Mr. Began to explore the house.
After a year of not being allowed up the stairs, he was unsure if it was ok, it took some convincing.

Then just as we were settling in, the wind picked up, really bad, I thought perhaps we were going to have a tornado, I was really worried, and Mr was freaking out (welcome to Mexico pal)
I noticed the garbage cans rolling down the driveway so Josh and I went to go save them, and we saw the lounge chairs were going to blow away, and then it started to hail!
It hailed for about 20 minutes or so Nickle sized hail, and it was super hard with the winds, really severe winds!

Michigan winter

We took mr. To the vet to get his international paperwork.
And then worked on out shopping list.
While shopping were reminded how Michigan handles winter

Day 138

After finishing up my packing, and nervously pacing around and double checking my lists of things I wanted to buy in the US, I decided to work on some sewing, even though it wasn't sewing day.
I really think I might have to give everything else up between now and when I get this quilt finished! Sewing only from here on out, other than cleaning of course.
I told Josh I was giving up all of my other hobbies for a whole, and he laughed and said, so you are giving up cleaning? If only right?

I have 286 squares cut out
614 to go.

Josh got home, and we waited for the driver to pick us up to go to the hotel.
A few weeks back it did nothing but rain, for two whole weeks.
Because of this, there was a really bad landslide right into the expressway!
You can see where it slid to the barriers, and took over the whole side of the road, we had to drive on the other side.
This is some of the degree they cleared off of the road! Thankfully no one was hurt

Day 116

After finishing my dishes early and some special laundry things, I headed into sewing!
I finishes the blocks, and sewed the squares, and rows together! I finished the top! After talking to my sister and working through pictures to rearrange squares to balance out the dark blue.

Next week I'll make the binding and pack up the leftover fabric to bring it back to the U.S. For storage! And work on 2 squares for my cousin's baby quilt.

What project should I bring back? I have my mother in laws wedding quilt to finish by August, and I have a pillow I'm making for my Grandma... I think I'll bring back my rainbow quilt, it's almost finished, I'll just need to sew the boarder on, then, quilt and bind....

Also it rained here! And I found another leak!
 In my sewing room :(

I splashed on my fabric a bit! So hopefully it gets fixed soon.

It has been raining a lot lately, hence the leaks, and so our roads turn into rivers!
We even saw the sewer/drainage cover up in the air water gushing out! It was crazy!

Day 33

Today I went on a trip to the immigration office to sign some paperwork for my visa!
It should be ready some time next week! I am happy that I will finally have that!

It has been a little warmer the past two days, in the low 70s, which means windows open! since the temp in the house tends to sit at 60 or so. But we also got a little space heater for the bathroom, it had been helping keep he condensation down when it's cold out there!

Day 26

Another foggy day, and chilly, I had the heat on wherever I went (you have to turn each room on when you are in it, and turn it off when you leave) but it never quite makes the room warm, we even turned the heat on in our bedroom for the night.

See how foggy it was?

I finished my daily chores pretty early, then chatted with my sister, and finally got to work on my sewing!  I need to bind one quilt and finish this top.
I cut all of my strips

And sewed my first two together, I couldn't wait any longer,
When I sewed the third strip on , I had to make blocks, which then led to a row of blocks getting sewed together,
2 of 6 rows done!

Day 25

Today was overcast, foggy, and depressing, I felt like it was 6pm all
I cleaned up the house, and waited for someone to come over and help fix the cable,
Phew! All better and I found CNN in English! Yey!

The I Skyped with my sister ironed and scrubbed some floors... Another exciting day!
Then when Josh got home, I went for a run, I finally ran 3 miles woot woot, and in a decent time, I am so happy!
Also I fell in love with strawberry Gatorade!

Also, I called my parents for some information on my sewing machine, I was having a problem winding bobbins, but I finally got it fixed, when I was talking to them, my Mom mentioned that her sister had heard from a long lost relative that they would be in town, and would love to meet up with her, but unfortunately she was too busy and wouldn't be able to make it.
Recently, well really the past year or two I have gotten into genealogy with my sister and Dad, so I was pretty interested to hear about this!
As the story goes, my great Aunt moved to Mexico as a Baptist missionary to work in an orphanage, she met and married her husband and they had 6 kids, a couple of those kids moved to California and Texas, but beyond that we knew nothing, this long lost relative is in that family! I hope she can fill in some of the gaps! I can not wait to meet up with her!
Also there were stories about how my Great Uncle was a cab driver and had to have someone sleep in his car so no one stole it and that they didn't really live together, and there were a lot of questions.
I think because of this story there were a lot of reservations in my family for me to move to Mexico.
